Androgynous women and men are becoming more prevalent in today’s society

Androgynous women and men are becoming more prevalent in today’s society

Androgynous women and men are becoming more prevalent in today’s society and are often considered more fashionable than even the most feminine woman.  Androgyny has two definitions; the first referring to physical attributes of those who are intersex- meaning they have both male and female genitalia. The second has a psychological connotation and is a combination of both masculine and feminine traits; a kind of unified gender that defies social roles and psychological attributes.

When referring to the term “androgynous” in mainstream society, it is the psychological definition that is most often being used, usually pertaining to a person’s style or appearance.  Being androgynous has taken on a much trendier meaning for women and men in the 21st century.  It has become hip for women and men to experiment with the androgynous look.  It allows women and young men to incorporate the best of both worlds: the comfort of men’s clothing, along with the style of women’s clothing.

Androgynous fashion is everywhere these days and it's growing, so it is important to have a clear understanding of this current trend.

According to Dr. Lee Warren, a leading expert on male and female androgyny, there is a very common misconception about androgynous women and men, “Many have mistakenly confused androgyny with bisexuality, which is a psychological condition,” Warren said. It is true that in some circles, like for example the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community, it is commonly assumed that a woman donning androgynous clothing is a lesbian or bisexual, but more and more in mainstream society we are seeing women ditching the often impossible ritual of makeup, dresses and heels, for a more androgynous, simple look that isn’t as time consuming and doesn’t require all of the frill.

Well Dr, more and more men are  ditching what is jokingly call mens fashions  " The prevailing style or custom, as in dress or behavior" well men's fashion really has not changed in 200 years where as woman's fashions have taken off in to the sky which is true fashion.  Well one of the definitions of fashions is "Something, such as a garment, that is in the current mode" men's fashion have been locked for 200 years in the current mode and men have come to feel like 2nd class citizens that must wear what has become a uniforms for men and no longer fashion at all.  The style characteristic of the social elite the men are locked in the same old dead style of a suits or tuxedos and that's it the same old dead as I call uniforms.
So today more and more men are looking to break out of jail and wear what they like or love and it's the young who are taking the first steps and taking from the other fashion that is around them every day.  It's form woman's fashion and  style some of which are old to the woman of today for example high heels, skirts, dresses, makeup,  purses.  What more men wish is to have more Equality in Fashions, true fashions and to break away from jail and wear what the love from the woman closet and their is nothing wrong with that.  So I hope the fashion industry will push more and more for equality in fashions to where men are enjoying the same clothing as woman and change the world to the point that their is no longer men and woman's section in the stores.
I feel that if the current trends contenue in the fashion industry  such as the Androgynou look for men and woman we will see equality.  We are now seeing new supper models on the runways such as Andrej Pejic, Lea T., Trevor, Valentijn de Hingh who are breaking new ground in the fashion industry in more ways then one, even the fashion designer are now pushing the envelope.  Think of the money $$$$ out their that the fashion industry has not tapped in to that would open up if gender was removed from clothing and became unisex, we now see men's makeup showing up in stores and on the internet men are starting to wear pantyhose, high heels and skirts/kilts they are not waiting for the fashion industry any more and more power to them.
The ladies out their in the world could also help the men by supporting the new styles and fashions that men with time will be able to wear with out fear from you his wife or girlfriend the fear of ridiculed, excluded, labeled, marginalized and called a pervert and the woman will have to adjust there thinking too.   Their is nothing wrong in having equality in fashions and if your man is not gay have no fear if he wishes to enjoy his skirt/kilt for this is just the tip of the Iceberg in men's fashions of the future.
As I said the wife or girlfriend will have to adjust there thinking as did men when woman started wearing pants back in the 40's, now woman are raiding other things from the husband side of the closet with out thinking that it may be wrong and it's OK but remember it's a two way street.
And what do we make of Trevor, the young man shown above? Is he cross-dressing? Is he trying lo look like a girl? Or is he just questioning the old, trite, archetypes with an even bolder push of the envelope? I don't have the answer for that question. Nor do I think it's that important. I can only state that Trevor's a very brave young man, and that he looks absolutely stunning. That's enough for me. http://wearetheyouthproject.blogspot.com/ An end to the rigid, traditional conventions of gender, especially as they relate to clothing, currently still firmly enforced, would be paradise. Imagine, being allowed to wear whatever you like and being accepted as you are. When that day dawns, humanity will have finally taken evolution to the next level and left gender behind forever.
